Who is Master Bilal
Bilal ibn Rabah (c. 580–640 CE), also known as Bilal al-Habashi, was a close companion of the Prophet Muhammad and the first muʾazzin (caller to prayer) in Islam, chosen for his powerful, melodious voice. Born in Mecca to an Abyssinian mother and into slavery, Bilal was among the earliest converts to Islam and is often regarded as the first African or Black Muslim. He endured severe torture for his faith under his master, Umayyah ibn Khalaf, steadfastly proclaiming God’s oneness. Bilal was later emancipated by Abu Bakr and went on to become a respected figure in early Islam, remembered for his piety, resilience, and dignity.
